What’s Your Passion?

We live in a fast-paced world that seems to accelerate every day. Amid all the chaos, it’s important to pause and ask ourselves: What truly makes us happy? If you’re reading this, you’re likely a business owner or in a leadership role. We’re constantly chasing daily, monthly, and annual goals. But beyond the hustle, what drives you? What’s your passion?

When I was a young father growing a business, my number one passion was my family—raising my kids and being present in their lives. My community involvement at the time naturally centered around them. I coached my kids in soccer, basketball, and baseball.

I joined the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce in 1998 and immediately got involved, serving on the Ways and Means Committee and the Golf Committee. Within two years, I was chairing both. For seven years, I gave 100% to the Chamber and loved being part of our business community. But despite my dedication, coaching remained my true passion.

Eventually, I stepped back from Chamber leadership to focus on being there for my son, Kyle, and daughter, Cassie. Whether it was local leagues or travel teams, I was on the sidelines—or behind the bench. My wife and I even bought a motorhome to support our travel-heavy sports schedule. I served on the Temecula Youth Basketball League Board for ten years and coached multiple travel teams, including a three-year stint as the Gardner Middle School Basketball Coach. I loved every minute of it.

But as Kyle and Cassie grew up, I had to find a new passion.

In late 2012, my wife encouraged me to find a new way to give back to the community. I was still involved in both the Temecula and Murrieta (now Murrieta/Wildomar) Chambers, but I needed something beyond business. That spark came in January 2013, when I joined The Rotary Club of Temecula.

Honestly, it’s been life-changing—for both me and my wife, Kathy. We’ve formed lasting friendships through our club, but more importantly, we’ve aligned ourselves with a mission that resonates deeply: Service Above Self. That simple but powerful motto continues to fuel my passion today.

There are so many ways to serve in Rotary. Whether it’s through the International Committee, Youth Services, Senior Outreach, Military Outreach, the Bridge/Homeless Committee, or our Holiday Boxes Committee, there’s no shortage of opportunities to give back.

And during the holidays, all eyes turn to one of our club’s most impactful programs: The Holiday Boxes Program.

This program was founded over 25 years ago by fellow Rotarian Bob Brown. In its first year, we supported just 20 families. Today, we help between 300 and 450 local families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Our current Holiday Boxes Chair is Scott Davis, and I’ve proudly served as his right-hand man ever since he took over the reins from Bob ten years ago.

As of this writing—October 17, 2025—we are still without a location to store canned foods for Thanksgiving and toys for our December Toy Drive. We’ll need a space no later than November 7th to begin storing collected items for distribution to local families in need. Ideally, the space should be located in Temecula and be at least 2,500 square feet.

If you have a vacant space available or know of someone who might, please reach out to:

  • Scott Davis: scott@themortgagehouse.com
  • Craig Davis: craig@craigdavisfamilyinsurance.com

We sincerely appreciate your help and consideration in keeping this incredible tradition alive.

Lastly, I want to leave you with this: There are so many incredible organizations in the Temecula Valley doing great work. Whether it’s Rotary or another nonprofit, I encourage you to get involved. It’s not just about giving of your time or treasure—it’s about discovering what moves you. It’s about finding your passion.

If you’d like to learn more about what we do at the Rotary Club of Temecula, feel free to reach out to me—or our current Membership Chair, Maggie Boylston, at mboylston@boylstonlaw.com.

So… What’s your passion?
